현대종교에 많은 선교사들의 자료 요청이 들어오고 있다. 해외에서 사용할 수 있는 영어로 번역된 이단 자료가 필요하다는 것이다. 그래서 현대종교는 매월 한 단체씩 이단단체에 대한 정보를 영어로 번역해 게재하고자 한다. [편집자 주]

The Beloved Church (represented by Seungwoo Byun, former [Big Faith Church]) is a heresy organization which causes much troubles in the Korean Christian society. Mr. Seung-woo Byun, the founder of the Beloved
Church, and his theories related to redemption (Salvation) and occultism have been suspected by the Korean churches. Mr. Byun’s church has been decided as a heresy and/or a cult organization by authentic and legitimate Korean churches, such as the Koshin Presbyterian Church in Korea (Koshin), the Presbysterian Church of Korea (Tonghap), the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Korea (Hapdong), The Presbyterian Church in Korea(Baekseok), the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church (Kiseong), Jesus Korea Sungkyul Church(Yeosung), and the Korean Methodist Church (Kigam). Mr. Byun changed the name of Church from “Big Faith Church” to the “Beloved Church” and re-started his ministry of this cult organization in a newly built building on December 20th, 2015.

사랑하는교회(대표 변승우, 구 큰믿음교회)는 한국 교계에서 많은 논란을 일으키고 있는 단체 중 하나다. 설립자인 변승우씨는 구원관과 신비주의적인 신앙 형태로 한국 교계의 주목과 의심을 받았지만, 이에 아랑곳하지 않는 행보로 2008년 고신 측을 시작으로 통합, 합동, 백석, 기성, 예성, 기감 측에서 이단, 참여금지, 교류금지, 예의주시 등으로 결의됐다. 사랑하는교회는 서울특별시 송파구 위례성대로22길 27-22(오금동)에 새 건물을 마련했다. 교회 명칭을 ‘큰믿음교회’에서 ‘사랑하는교회’로 바꾸고 2015 년 12월 20일 새 건물에서 첫예배를 진행했다.

1. Who is Mr. Seung-woo Byun?

1. 변승우는 누구인가?

Mr. Byun graduated his undergraduate course in the school of Theology of Sungkyul University. After his ilitary service, he started to run a church in Seoul. However, the church that Mr. Byun firstly established and ran for live (5) years failed and he went to Ulsan, a city located in Southern part of Korea. In Ulsan, he started a new church with twenty (20) followers. In 2005, he left Ulsan, and started another new church, named “Big Faith Church”, in Bangbae-dong, Seoul. This new church has been operated by Mr. Byun and has been expanded, since then.

변승우씨는 성결교신학교(현성결대학교) 신학과를 졸업하고 군복무를 마친 후 서울에서 교회를 개척했다. 그러나 5년 동안의 교회 개척은 실패로 끝났고 이후 울산으로 내려가 10년 넘게 20여 명의 교인들을 대상으로 목회를 했다. 2005년 변씨는 다시 울산을 떠나 서울 방배동에 사랑하는교회(당시 큰믿음교회)를 개척, 교세 확장에 주력했고, 교회는 급성장하기 시작했다.

He moved the church from Bangbae-dong to Nonhyun-dong in Seoul, and the Beloved Church which has 5,000 followers, became one of mega-churches in Korea, but soon after becoming a mega church, it has been suspected as a heresy. In 2009, Koshin strongly recommended its believers “not to participate in any event of the Beloved Church”, because of Mr. Byun’s theories and comments related to the Salvation (Redemption), Revelation, the New Apostolic Movement and other theological doctrines. Tonghap determined the Beloved Church as a “heresy”, because of Mr. Byun’s wrongful theories related to the Salvation, divineness, prediction, glossolalia and other mysticism theological theories.

서울 논현동 인근으로 옮긴 후 사랑하는교회는 5000여 신도가  모이는 대형 교회로 성장해 한국교회의 주목을 받게 되지만 ‘이단성’ 논란에 빠지게 된다. 2009년 예장고신 교단은 변씨의 구원관, 계시관, 신사도적운동 추구, 다림줄, 신학 및 교리 경시, 한국교회를 폄하하는 발언 등으로 “참여금지”, 예장통합 교단은 변씨의 구원관, 입신, 예언, 방언 등 극단적인 신비주의 신앙 형태 등으로 “이단”으로 결의했다.

Hapdong strongly recommended its believers “not to participate” in any event of the Beloved Church, and the Korean Presbysterian Church (Hapsin) decided that Hapsin’s believers shall “not participate in any event of the Beloved Church and they shall not communicate with anyone belonging to the Beloved Church”. Yesung decided the Beloved Church as a “heresy”, because of wrongful interpretation of the Bible and extreme occultism, in 2012. And in 2014, Kigam decided to treat the Beloved Church as a “danger” to be watched out by its believers.

예장합동 교단은 “집회참석금지”, 예장합신은 “이단성이 있어 참여 및 교류금지”로 각각 결의했다. 예성은 2012년에 원판 변질, 개인체험에 의한 성경해석, 급진적 신비주의를 추구한다는 이유로 “이단”, 기감은 2014년 “예의주시”로 결의했다.

After being decided and judged as a heresy or a cult by authentic and legitimate churches, Mr. Byun criticized these churches’ decisions and argued that “the decisions of churches show how all denominations of churches in present Korea are seriously dark and bad. These decisions are wrongful and illegal decisions made by churches.” at his sermon preached in the first service of the Beloved Church on September 27th, 2009. Mr. Byun founded a new kind of denomination called “the Korean Presbyterian Church, Booheung (Revival)” and he has still been arguing his theories and doctrines.

이에 변씨는 2009년 9월 27일 사랑하는교회 1부 예배에서 “현대교회의 어두움이 얼마나 심각한 상태인지는 이번 총회
때 교단들이 내린 불의하고 불법적인 결정들이 그대로 보여 주고 있다”고 주장, 교단들의 결의내용을 비판했고, 2009년 12월 7일 “대한예수교장로회 부흥교단”을 창립해 지속적으로 자신의 교리를 전파하고 있다.

2. Mr. Byun’s Arguments

2. 변승우씨의 주장

1) Conditional Salvation which requires works In accordance with a book titled “A person already redeemed could be truly dumped”, written by Mr. Byun, Mr. Byun argued that a person who was already redeemed could be doomed. In other words, Mr. Byun insists that a Christian who accepts Jesus Christ as his/her savior could be excepted from the Redemption and the Salvation. According to Mr. Byun’s book titled “Christians going to Hell”, he wrote that “Many people believes in Jesus Christ, since they believe that only faith redeems the people’s souls. Many people thinks that the Salvation is a gift of faith and the prize will be determined by the works. And these people say that a person who commits offenses and does not obey God’s words could be redeemed by his faith at the final moment. This thought is very dangerous, since it is based on an ignorance of the Bible.”

1) 행위가 포함된 조건적 구원 변승우씨는 그의 저서 『진짜 구원 받은 사람도 진짜 버림 받을 수 있다』에서 “한 번 구원받은 사람도 버림받고 멸망 받을 수 있다”고 말했다. 즉 변씨의 주장에 따르면 믿음의 성도도 구원받지 못할 수 있다는 것이다. 변씨는 『지옥에 가는 크리스천들』에서 “오늘날 많은 사람들이 믿음으로 구원받는 것이기 때문에 믿기만 하면 천국에 간다고 생각한다. 심지어 어떤 사람들은 ‘구원은 믿음으로 받고 상급은 행함으로 받는 것이기 때문에 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 못하고 죄 가운데 살아도 구원은 받을 수 있다’고 생각한다. 이런 생각들은 모두 성경이 말하는 믿음이 무엇인지를 모르기 때문에 생긴 매우 위험한 생각들이다”라고 주장했다.

Details of Mr. Byun’s arguments are as follows:

변씨의 주장을 좀 더 살펴보면 다음과 같다.

▲ Any person who does not obey the God’s words shall not enter into the Heaven. This principle applies to everyone, including Christians. ([Christians going to Hell] p. 98)
▲ 누구든지 하나님의 말씀대로 살지 않는 자는 결단코 천국에 들어가지 못 합니다. 이것은 믿는 자들도 예외가 될 수 없습니다. (『지옥에 가는 크리스천들』, 98쪽)
▲ If you have a faith, but no works followed by such faith, there will neither be prize nor the Salvation. ([Christians going to Hell], p. 104)
▲ “믿음이 있노라 하고행함이 없으면” 단순히 상급이 아니라 “구원을 받을 수 없다”는 말이 됩니다. (『지옥에 가는 크리스천들』, 104쪽)
▲ A person who has a faith but no obedience to God’s words is not a person with real faith and he/she shall not enter into the Heaven ([Christian going to Hell], p. 118)

▲ A person who has only faith shall not become righteous. As acts of a body shows the truth that the body is alive, the righteousness could be shown by the behaviors and works of faith. ([Christians going to Hell], p. 127)

▲ The final salvation of a Christian is conditional. The final salvation is not guaranteed to any redeemed Christian, but to Christian who fulfills every condition to the final salvation. ([A person who was already redeemedcould be dumped], p. 153)
▲ 성도의 궁극적인 구원은 조건적인 것입니다. 구원받은 성도가 다 궁극적인 구원을 받는 것이 아니라 조건을 충족시킨 사람만 버림받지 않고 천국에 들어갑니다. (『진짜 구원받은 사람도 진짜 버림받을 수 있다』 153쪽)

In summary of details above, Mr. Byun’s argument for the Salvation requires a person’s will and his righteousness. This argument is totally conflict to the authentic and legitimate Churches’ salvation theory which requires only faith for the Salvation and such Salvation is only from the ability of the God. According to the Research Report titled “What are the difference between Beloved Church and the authentic and legitimate churches?”, written by Professor Chang Seob Sim, Chongshin University, Professor Sim wrote that “Mr. Byun superficially admits the authentic and legitimate churches’ doctrine of the Salvation, but he truly insists that the Salvation shall be conditioned by obedienceand works of Christians. In Romans, New Testament of the Holy Bible, Paul wrote that the Salvation could be achieved by faith, not works of a person”.

정리하면 변씨의 구원관은 ‘나의 의’가 필요한 구원관이라 말할 수 있다. 이는 정통교회의 주장과 달리 ‘행위’로 구원받는 다는 주장이다. 이러한 변씨의 주장에 대해 총신대학원 심창섭 교수는 연구자료 <변승우(큰믿음교회)씨의 주장은 무엇이 다른가?>에서 “변승우씨는 오직 믿음으로만 구원받는다는 기존 교회의 신앙을 인정하는 것처럼 말하지만 그 믿음이 선행을 수반하지 않는다면 구원 받을 수 없는 믿음이라고 주장한다”며 “성경은 인간의 행위가 아니고 믿음으로 의롭게 된다고 가르치고, 바울은 로마서에서 이 진리를 확인해 주고 있다”고 주장했다.

Also, Professor Sim criticized that “Paul emphasized Christians’ holy life style which shall be came from the righteousness of the God, but such holy life style neither mean a real faith nor a condition to the final Salva-tion, therefore, Mr. Byun wrongfully understands the Justification of Faith”.

또 “바울은 믿음으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 자들의 성화적인 삶에 대해서 강조하고 있지만 그는 결코 그 선행이 우리를 의롭게 하는 믿음에 이르게 한다고는 말하지 아니한다”며 “변승우씨는 이신칭의 진리를 왜곡되게 이해했다”고 비판했다.

2) Revelation, Prediction and divineness Mr. Byun disclosed his intention to write the book titled “Plumb Line (Darimzul)” by quoting Shawn Bolz’s prediction, at the book’s introduction. Shawn Bolz made a prediction related to Mr. Byun. He said that “one of the strongest and high ranked angels in charge of time recording in the Heaven is next to Mr. Byun. This angel is the same angel with the one who was next to Paul at the time when he was writing letters… … Mr. Byun, this angel next to you is the angel who was next to Paul writing the letters to the belivers in Roman Church and Galatian Church”. Mr. Byun answered to such Mr. Bolz’s prediction that “I can feel the angel’s presence right next to me.” As you can see, Mr. Byun argues that he preaches and writes in accordance with direct revelation.

2) 계시와 예언 그리고 입신 변승우씨는 『다림줄』 서문에서 자신에 대한 샨 볼츠의 예언을 빌려 저술 의도를 밝혔다. 샨볼츠는 변씨에 대해 “이 시간 기록을 담당하고 있는 천사 중 직위가 높고 강력한 천사가 변승우 목사님 곁에 와 있습니다. 바울이 서신서들을 저술할 때에 바울과 함께 서 있었던 역할을 감당하기에 합당했던 바로 그 천사입니다. (중략) 변 목사님, 바로 이 천사가 바울이 로마교회 성도들과 갈라디아교회 성도들에게 서신서를 썼을 때에 바울과 함께 있었습니다” 라고 예언했다. 샨 볼츠의 예언을 들은 변씨는 “그 천사가 자신과 함께 있음을 느낄 수 있었다”고 말했다. 이처럼 변씨는직접적인 계시를 통해 설교 및 저술을 한다고 주장하고 있다.

Moreover, in his book titled [Try to make special prediction], Mr. Byun argued that “Recently prediction with dream and fantasy increases. With this increase of prediction, the divineness will increase, as well. Christians
will meet Jesus Christ through this divineness and may communicate with Christians in the Heaven. This divineness will give Christians a great understanding of the Bible and special prediction.”

또한 변씨는 『특별히 예언을 하려고 하라』에서 “현재 요엘이 예언한 대로 꿈과 환상과 예언이 전 세계적으로 급증하고 있다”며 “꿈과 환상과 예언의 증가와 더불어 반드시 입신의 증가를 보게 될 것이다”라고 말했다. 또 “입신을 통해 예수님을 만나고, 앞서간 성도들과 만나서 교제할 수 있다”, “성경 진리에 대한 큰 이해력을 얻을 수 있고 미래에 대한 놀라운 계시를 받을 수 있다”고 주장했다.

The Tonghap officially published that the “the Beloved Church is a heresy which teaches extreme occultism and anti-bible theories” in the 94th General Assembly. The Hapsin officially criticized the Beloved Church as follows: “the Beloved Church argues that direct revelation is only revelation method which a Christian receives message from the God and it established a Prophet School and teaches student how to directly receive revelation. In addition, this School’s teaching staffs give prediction for all students. Followers of the Beloved Church also listen and receive the revelation and prediction from the Beloved Church. Natually they follows not the Bible, but these revlation and prediction for their Christian life.”

이러한 변씨의 신비주의적인 신앙에 대해 예장통합 교단은 2009년 94회 총회에서 “극단적인 신비주의 신앙 형태 등을
갖고 있는 비성경적 기독교 이단이다”라고 밝혔다. 예장합신 교단은 2009년 94회 총회에서 “하나님의 계시의 방편이 직통계시라고 주장하며 지금도 선지자학교를 세워 예언을 가르치고 각 개인의 신상에 대해 예언을 해주고 있다”며 “자신의 신학 논리를 성경의 근거보다 개인적인 체험과 다른 사람들의 예언에다 두는 경우가 많다”고 비판했다.

The Beloved Church seduces Christians of authentic churches by holding various assemblies and meeting, such as “Spirit Seminarium & Institute”, “North Korea Mission”,“Couple School”, “Divine healing and deliverance meeting”, “Friday Spirituality Assembly”, “Intercessory Prayer School”, “Service for North Korean Defectors” and “Prayer Service for 365 days”. Also, the Beloved Church uploads and broadcasts videos of its services and assemblies through its website(www.belovedc.com) and internet café.

사랑하는교회는 일반예배뿐아니라 “성령신학교” “북한선교회” “부부학교” “신유‧축사모임” “금요영성집회” “중보기도학교” “탈북민 예배” “365일기도회” 등 각종 집회 및 모임을 통해 믿음의 성도들을 미혹,포교하고 있다. 또한 인터넷 홈페이지(www.belovedc.com) 및 사랑하는교회 인터넷 카페를 활용해 설교 및 집회 현황을 중계하고 있다.

1) SPIRIT SEMINARIUM & INSTITUTE

Spirit Seminarium & Institute (or SPIRIT THEOLOGICAL SEMINARIUM) (hereinafter referred to as “Seminarium”) was established on October 1st 2009. The dean of this Seminarium is Mr. Byun, and the director is Mr. Dong Ki Lee. The teaching staffs are as follows: Joo Seob Lee (Subject: Interpretation of figures in the Bible and application of figures to the preach), Jak Heo (Subject: Specialty of Israeli Wisdom Literature), Ok Kyung Kim (Subject: Prediction and Healing), Sung Won Jin (Subject: Practical Pastoral Theology), Byung Il Yang (Subject: Theology of Existence and Relationship), Yoon Seok Lee (Subject: Practical Understanding of Epistle of James) and Kook Hee Kim (Subject: Self-check of ministry). There are two kinds of courses provided by this Seminarium; Regular courses and Temporary courses. The Regular Course consists of the Spirit Theological Seminarium (4 years)and Spirit Theological Institute (3 years). The Temporary courses are Ministry Course, 4
year long course, and course for layman.

1) 성령신학교

성령신학교는 2009년 10월 1일에 설립하였으며 학장은 변승우 목사, 성령신학연구원 원장은 이동기 목사다. 그 외에
교수진으로 이주섭(과목: 예수님 비유 해석과 설교에의 적용), 허작(과목: 이스라엘 지혜문학의 독특성), 김옥경(과목:예언과 치유), 진성원(과목: 실천목회학), 양병일(과목: 존재&관계신학), 이윤석(과목: 실전야고보서 이해), 김국희(과목:목회자의 자기점검) 교수가 강의하고 있다. 수업 과정은 정규과정과 비정규과정으로 나뉜다. 정규과정은 성령신학교(4년), 성령 신학 연구원(3년), 비정규과정은 목회자반, 4년 수료과정, 평신도반이 있다.

The Beloved Church uploads sermon and service videos of Mr. Byun, Shawn Bolz, Bob Jones, Bobi Corner, Heidi Baker, and Jeff Jenson, in its website and internet café. Also, it introduces Mr. Byun’s books in the internet website titled “Heavenly Library” (www.gfcbook.com).

4. Current Status of the Beloved Church in Korea/Foreign Countries

According to the argument of the Beloved Church, the number of followers on register is about 18,000. In 2005, the Beloved Church was established and became a mega church. The Beloved Church has established camps in various areas in Korea and foreign countries. Camps in Korea are located at Namyangju, Bucheon, Suwon, Ansan, Anyang, Incheon, Ilsan, Yongin, Uijeongbu, Hwaseong, Gangneung, Gyeongju, Gumi,Gwangju, Daejeon, Daegu, Mokpo, Busan,Seosan, Sooncheon, Andong, Yangsan,Ulsan, Wonju, Iksan, Jeonju, Jecheon, Jeju,Changwon, Cheongju, Chuncheon, Tongyeung,Pyeongtaek, and Pohang. Camps inforeign countries are located at New York, Bekasi, Vancouver, Sydney, Atlanta, Osaka, and Frankfurt.
